NYC Uber driver hit by hockey stick earlier than dying, police say – CBS Information

NEW YORK — New York Metropolis police say a livery cab driver has died after an indignant pedestrian struck him within the head with a hockey stick and the driving force crashed the automotive. 

Police arrested Kohji Kosugi, of Manhattan, on a manslaughter cost Sunday. 

CBS New York reports that investigators consider the assault adopted a quarrel outdoors NYC’s Chelsea Piers late Saturday night time. Police say 68-year-old Randolph Tolk of West New York, New Jersey, an Uber driver, was bludgeoned within the head by the pedestrian late Saturday whereas he was stopped at a pink mild in New York Metropolis’s Chelsea neighborhood. 

When the suspect hit Tolk’s automotive with the hockey stick, Tolk obtained out of the automotive and the lads started to struggle, police stated. Police stated the suspect hit the driving force over the top and ran away.  

Tolk returned to his car, drove for a number of blocks and struck a median. 

He was pronounced lifeless at an area hospital. 

Police discovered the suspect by checking surveillance footage at Chelsea Piers, and have been capable of determine him due to the hockey stick, CBS New York reviews.

“It is very unhappy to see a driver at that age working that late at night time and being assaulted by a younger man,” stated Fernando Mateo of the New York State Federation of Taxi Drivers. “If he would not have gotten hit, he would not have died. So we do not know the rationale for his demise was, however we consider it is related to the blow he took to the top.”

CBS New York spoke briefly to Tolk’s brother – who didn’t need to go on digital camera, however stated Tolk was an exquisite brother, father, and grandfather.

Police haven’t made it clear whether or not Tolk was killed by the blow to the top, or whether or not it disoriented him and he died within the crash. The New York Metropolis Medical Examiner’s workplace will decide the reason for his demise.

Police stated Tolk didn’t have any passengers on the time.

Police didn’t give a motive for the assault.
